Mechanistically it is studied as a selective agonist at the GLP-1 receptor, a class B G-protein-coupled receptor. In preclinical and in vitro models it is investigated for effects on glucose-dependent insulin secretion, beta-cell signaling, gastric-emptying physiology, and central appetite-regulating pathways, and it serves as a standard comparator in incretin pharmacology and next-generation receptor-agonist research.
